I Yike It

Here are just a few snippets of things that make me smile:

-Dylan's lisp. Everything he says is cuter than if he spoke normally. He should sell something.....like grape juice. He gets this wide-eyed look on his face and says- "I Yike It!". It always makes me smile.

-The Tom and Kayla Variety Show. Starring Scout and Dylan. Scout came up with this idea a few nights ago and they perform nightly in the bathtub. Scout doesn't get in the bath with Dylan (she is too old and is afraid of boy parts). I came into the bathroom on Monday night and Scout had Dylan standing in the tub completely covered in green foam soap except for his "area". They performed several songs and a play at the end. It was hysterical! Dylan even had a solo stand-up comedy bit where he made Thomas and Percy (his favorite trains) talk to each other and crash into each other at the end. I love the imagination of children!!! It really makes my night.

-The way Scout and Dylan play with each other. This is only getting better. Scout is just now ok with letting Dylan into her things. He recently stopped trying to trash all her belongings so I see some trust building between the two of them. I think it is so sweet to watch Dylan play Barbie's and say things like-"I like your dress Malone" and to hear Scout say- "I am going to crash you!" when playing trains. If we could always live this harmoniously...........

Circus Time

I love the circus! I take the kids every year and we always have a blast. This year was no exception. It was even better than last year because Dylan is 2.5 years old and really got what the show was all about. If you are a parent you know that kids say the funniest things at the most random times. Scout informed me while we were there that she wanted to join the circus as a "Circus Girl". She wanted to play with all the animals and paint the elephant's toe nails before each performance. She wanted to make sure they were not underfed, abused, and caged up all the time......like the protestors outside the Bi-Lo Center said they were. She was really concerned about the well-being of the animals which I thought was very sweet.
Dylan had a great time until the last act. He melted down pretty quickly. He was too excited to eat his dinner because he wanted to hurry to see the circus. Around 9:30pm he told me he wanted a burrito.......and all the concessions were closed. I told him he had to wait until we got home to eat and that did not sit well with him. He completely freaked out and stood up and just screamed at the top of his lungs. I told him to stop and he looked at me and pointed his finger and said-"I will spank you on your bottom!" I wanted to laugh so hard but I knew I couldn't. I picked him up and grabbed our things and we left right then. Can't wait to see what next year's show brings.

Status Update

So I survived my run today. Barely. At one point I was willing myself to go ahead and die. I'm not afraid of death and I am looking forward to going to heaven one day. How many miles did I run? One. Yes- one mile. It took me 22 minutes and it was a good mix of walking and running. Are you supposed to have a headache after you run? Is that normal? If it is, then why do people run? It started out ok- I took Scout's ipod with me (since I don't own one). I turned it on and started going. Miley Cyrus and the Hoedown Throwdown was the first song I heard....not a bad way to start even though I don't like her music- the beat was there and I was running to a rhythm.
I didn't have a big audience- thankfully. I went to Mauldin Middle School by my house and only a couple of people were there. One woman caught my eye- she was tanning herself in the baseball field. I passed her every so often and she kept staring at me and I was staring back at her. She brought her own lounge chair and a book and wore long pants and a tank top. It was weird because it was only 45 degrees outside. And the sun was out but who does that? I didn't think people tanned outside in the winter. Odd.....
So- Scout starts her running program tomorrow and I feel like I am one step ahead of her since I can jog a mile. :)

Valentine's Pics

For the past three years I have taken pictures of the kids kissing for Valentine's Day. I print them in black and white and scrapbook cards and send them to out of town family. I love to look back and see how they have grown. The first picture is of this year, the second one is from 2009 and the last one is from 2008. Notice Dylan in this year's pic- he is in his Spiderman costume which he hasn't taken off since mid-December. Really. He hasn't.

Girl On The Run

Are you a runner? I have judged you. My whole life I have felt that runners are a bit off....nothing I can put my finger on, just off. I have seen the crazed look in a runner's eye talking about how great it was to just run 50 miles in 100 degree weather. I only run when I am being chased and I'm not chased all that often. I truly don't like running- my lungs burn and my side hurts and I can't breathe. What is appealing about that?
Scout has been trying to find her sport for about 5 years. She hates soccer, baseball, football, basketball, cheerleading, and gymnastics. She complains when she sweats. She is excellent at fencing, her current sport of choice but it is not aerobic enough. I just signed her up for a program called Girls On The Run which I am excited about. It's a 12 week program and by the end of the season she will run a 5K. I want to enjoy this form of excercise with her so I am going to learn how to run. I don't want to and I have been praying to God to give me motivation for her and for myself. So far God has been holding out on me- no excitement just yet. I will keep you posted on our progress. In the morning I am attempting to run 2 miles. We will see if I survive!

Dylan's Hair

There are people out there who believe that Dylan has never had a haircut. Almost daily I get comments about how cute my daughter is and they aren't talking about Scout. I like boys with long, curly hair. I think it's adorable! I am including proof that Dylan's hair has, indeed, gotten chopped. He has had 4 haircuts in his lifetime and although you may not be able to tell- Dylan and I know it's been cut and that is all that matters. So for all the people out there that don't believe me when I say he just had a haircut......or for Deirdre who thinks that Dylan and I have the same haircut- here you go.

Let Me Clarify

I'd like to take a moment and clarify the title of my blog. Team Me is meant to indicate that I am a party of one.......it is not meant to insinuate that it's "All about me" or that "I am the most important thing around". It's funny because Team Me is actually not about me- I am all about taking care of my kids and making sure everyone else around me is alright. I really don't factor in to the equation a lot. So for those of you who asked- now you know.

The First Post

Welcome to my blog site. I decided to start this for a couple of reasons-Number One: I have out of town family and friends that occasionally ask to see pictures of my kids and want to know what I am up to. Number Two: Everyone I know has a blog and they talk about how much they love their husbands and their kids and their job as a stay at home mom. Bitter you ask? Maybe a little....but I am excited to share with the world the "unmarried" side of life. And the Number Three reason for my blog- It is something to keep me occupied at work. I know that sounds bad but I have three or four hours each day with nothing to do and I can't leave my desk. So- I am typing right now at work, creating this blog looking really busy. I hope you enjoy reading about Team Me!
